Cast Steel Gate & Globe Valves
A slab gate valve is a pipeline valve in which a one-piece gate with a bore (the slab) moves between two seats and, when fully open, provides a smooth passage equal to the pipe bore. Because it is piggable and has a low pressure drop, it is used on oil and gas pipelines.
Overview
In the fully open position the bore in the gate aligns with the pipe axis; with no cavity left in the flow path, deposits do not accumulate and pigs pass freely. The seats seal against the gate; cavity relief and sealant injection options are designed to API 6D requirements.

What is the difference between a slab gate valve and a trunnion mounted ball valve?
Both can provide a full bore suitable for pigging on pipelines. A slab gate valve is multi-turn and more tolerant of deposits building up in the cavity with dirty fluids; a trunnion mounted ball valve is quarter-turn, operates faster and is easier to automate.
