Stainless Steel Valves
API 603 covers bolted bonnet gate valves made from corrosion-resistant materials. Because a stainless steel body does not require a corrosion allowance, the valves have thinner walls and lower weight than API 600 valves and suit chemical and corrosive process lines.
Overview
Body, bonnet and trim are usually CF8M (316), CF3M (316L) or CF8 (304); duplex or nickel alloy options are considered for more aggressive media. On welded lines, low-carbon CF3M reduces the risk of intergranular corrosion.

What is the difference between API 603 and API 600?
API 600 covers heavy-wall gate valves with a corrosion allowance for severe service such as refineries; carbon, alloy and stainless steel bodies can be made to this standard. API 603 covers lighter, thinner-wall gate valves made from corrosion-resistant (stainless) materials without an added corrosion allowance.
