Dynamic balancing valve or PICV?

A dynamic balancing valve holds the flow at its set value while the differential pressure across it changes within its working range. A PICV adds a control valve and an actuator to that function, so one valve both limits and controls the flow to a coil or terminal unit. FlowCon describes the PICV as a differential pressure controller, a control valve and a dynamic balancing valve built into one unit. For selection steps, see our PICV selection guide and hydronic balancing valves explained.

How to order FlowCon valves

  • For each line, send the FlowCon model or valve type, size, design flow, actuator voltage, control signal (on/off or modulating) and quantity.
  • You can also send the valve schedule from your drawings; we go through it line by line.
  • We send the manufacturer data sheets with the quote.
  • If a model is not available, we tell you in writing before you order.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you supply FlowCon valves in Canada?

Yes. ValveAtlas is based in Toronto and quotes FlowCon balancing and control valves by model for projects in Canada, the US Northeast and the UK.

What is the difference between a FlowCon dynamic balancing valve and a FlowCon PICV?

A dynamic balancing valve limits the flow to its set value. A PICV combines that function with a control valve and an actuator, so it also controls the flow in response to the room or coil controller.

What do you need for a FlowCon quote?

The model or valve type, size, design flow, actuator voltage, control signal and quantity for each line, or the valve schedule from your drawings.
