Why sprinkler control valves are supervised
A supervisory switch signals the fire alarm control panel when the valve is moved away from the fully open position, so a closed or partly closed valve does not go unnoticed. NFPA 13 requires valves that control sprinkler water supplies to be supervised in the open position, and an electrical supervisory switch is one of the accepted methods. Small threaded indicator butterfly valves like these are a common choice where a supervised shut-off is needed on smaller sprinkler pipe sizes.
