API 602 Forged Steel Valves
API 602 forged steel gate valves are used on small-bore (typically ½”–2″) high-pressure lines for drain, vent, sampling and instrument connections. The forged body is compact and robust; Class 800 is the industry standard class for small threaded and socket-weld valves.
Overview
The common API 602 design is a bolted bonnet with outside screw and yoke (OS&Y); a welded bonnet is used where extra protection against leakage is required, while pressure seal bonnets in higher classes are supplied to ASME B16.34. Full port or standard (reduced) port options are available. Ends can be NPT threaded to ASME B1.20.1, socket-weld to ASME B16.11, butt-weld or flanged.

Documentation and testing
On industrial projects the documentation package matters as much as the valve. We confirm the certificate and test scope for every line item at quotation stage:
- EN 10204 3.1 material certificates for pressure-retaining and wetted parts, traceable by heat number
- EN 10204 3.2 with third-party inspection, on request
- Pressure test reports to API 598 or EN 12266-1: shell, seat and, where specified, gas tests
- Fire-test certificates (API 607 / ISO 10497) for fire-safe type-tested designs
- PMI reports for alloy and stainless materials
- Dimensional, visual and coating inspection records
- PED 2014/68/EU CE declaration for equipment within its scope
- NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156 compliance statement for sour (H₂S) service

Frequently Asked Questions
What does Class 800 mean?
Class 800 is an intermediate pressure class defined in API 602 for small forged valves, between Class 600 and Class 900. It is the common standard for small valves with threaded and socket-weld ends.
Forged gate valve or forged globe valve?
A gate valve is used for full open/close isolation; a globe valve is preferred on drain and vent lines that need throttling, frequent operation or tighter shutoff.
